2012 Golden Helix Symposium
Genomic Medicine: Translating Genes into Health
18-21 April 2012, Torino Incontra Convention Center, Turin, Italy
We are pleased to announce the forthcoming 2012 Golden Helix Symposium, entitled “Genomic Medicine: Translating Genes into Health” that will take place on April 18-21, 2012 in Turin Italy. The Symposium will be organized by the Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research and the Human Genetics Foundation in Turin, as local partner. Human Genetics Foundation (HuGeF) is a new center for research and post-graduate education on human genetics. It is a private non-profit institution jointly set up by the Compagnia di San Paolo, the University of Turin and the Turin Polytechnic School.
Turin is a major business and cultural centre in Northern Italy, capital of the Piedmont region. It was the first capital of the unified Italy and it is often referred to as "the Capital of the Alps", "the Automobile Capital of Italy" or the “Detroit of Italy”. The city has a rich culture and history, and is known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, opera houses, piazzas, parks, gardens, theatres, libraries, museums and other venues. Turin is well-known for its Royal Palace of Turin, the Palazzina di caccia of Stupinigi and the Basilica di Superga and hosts some of Italy's best universities, colleges, academies, lycea and gymnasia, such as the Polytechnic University of Turin. Prestigious and important museums, such as the Museo Egizio and the Mole Antonelliana are also found in the city. Also, Turin is well known as the home of the Shroud of Turin and the headquarters of automobile manufacturers Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo. In 2006, the city hosted the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
Following the successful organization of the previous Golden Helix Symposia in Athens, Greece, the 2012 Golden Symposium will again revolve around translational medicine.
