The Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research

The Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research is a non-profit scientific entity, which activities are supervised by an international scientific advisory council, consisting of world leaders in the field of human genomics and translational medicine. Apart from its scientific activities, the operations of the Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research are dependent upon its staff that bring unique and diverse knowledge and experience to its primary areas of focus. In any discipline, from secretarial, marketing, IT and general management, we all share the same enthusiasm and passion to achieve the Golden Helix Institute's goals.

The Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research aims mainly to educate and provide training opportunities to biomedical scientists and organize high profile scientific symposia in the field of genome medicine, the GoldenHelix Symposia®.

The Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research, apart from the organisation of GoldenHelix Symposia®, is involved in scientific collaborative projects in the field of translational research. The Golden Helix Institute has actively participated to develop the Golden Helix Server, where a number of National/Ethnic Genetic databases and related projects that record the incidence of genetic diseases and the corresponding mutation spectrum in various populations and ethnic groups, are hosted.

Furthermore, the Golden Helix Institute organizes the Pharmacogenomics days, a free educational event that is organized in major cities with large academic hospitals. The goal of this event, which is organized in the local language, is: (a) to provide timely updates on the field of pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine to the local biomedical scientists and healthcare providers, (b) to inform them on the application of pharmacogenomics in fields such as psychiatric disorders, oncology, and (c) to bring together faculty members from universities and research institutes from the local scientific arena working in the field of pharmacogenomics in order to initiate collaborative projects in this field to the benefit of society.

Other educational events of The Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research are scientific conferences with other scientific societies. The topic of those conferences is targeted to a wide range of scientists, from undergraduate students to university faculty members, to achieve knowledge transfer to society.

Finally, other activities include the provision of the Golden Helix fellowships to under-graduate and post-graduate students to participate in the GoldenHelix® Symposia, to publish special issues from educational activities, and to inform the general public on issues pertaining to Genetics and Society.
